The beach patrol vision is for all beach users to enjoy a clean and safe beach
Meet Peter, the dedicated and passionate force behind the 3199 Frankston Beach Patrol. Since 2015, Peter has been instrumental in transforming the Frankston coastline, inspiring volunteers, and fostering a strong community spirit.
His journey began as a volunteer, quickly rising to Assistant Group Leader in 2016 and ultimately taking the helm as Group Leader in 2017. LitterStopper data shows that Frankston Beach Patrol has removed over 2,655 kg of litter from Frankston's beaches since 2015, including thousands of plastic bottles, cans, and cigarette butts.
Leading by Example
Peter's leadership is characterised by his hands-on approach and unwavering commitment. He consistently organises monthly clean-ups, ensuring that Frankston's beaches and foreshore remain pristine for both residents and marine life. But Peter's impact extends far beyond simply picking up litter. He actively engages with schools, businesses, and community groups, raising awareness about environmental issues and empowering others to take action.
Beyond the Clean-ups
Peter's passion for the environment shines through in his innovative initiatives. In 2019, Frankston BeachPatrol participated in the "Seaside Scavenge" festival, a unique event that combined beach clean-up efforts with a fun and interactive festival, encouraging community participation and fostering a sense of collective responsibility for the environment. Peter also spearheaded the "Tackle the Tackle" project, successfully addressing the issue of fishing tackle litter at Oliver's Hill boat ramp through collaboration and education.
A Legacy of Clean Coastlines
Peter's tireless efforts have not gone unnoticed. He was recognised as Frankston City Council Volunteer of the Year in 2018, a testament to his outstanding contributions to the community. His dedication to environmental conservation and community well-being makes him a true champion for Frankston.
