Helping keep Geelong's beaches clean
Geelong BeachPatrol cares for the beaches on the southern shore of Corio Bay between Rippleside and Limeburners Point boat ramp. The council patrols and cares for some of these areas, however we want to assist in keeping our beautiful waterfront precinct plastic free by being a second wave of rubbish removal with a particular focus on some of the more difficult to reach sections of our coastline.
The southern shoreline of Corio Bay is an eclectic mix of tourist attractions, piers, jetties, boat ramps, boat sheds, open stretches of sand and secluded coves. It attracts millions of visitors throughout the year, who enjoy beachside activities, boating, paddle boarding, recreational fishing and sightseeing. The bayside landscape ranges from steep embankments with indigenous flora to manicured parks and gardens, boardwalks, footpaths and restaurants that stretch out over the water.
Under the water’s surface, the sandy sea floor supports expanses of seaweed and grasses that are home to abundant fish life, sea horses, weedy sea dragons, seals and the bay’s resident dolphins who can be regularly spotted close to shore. By removing plastic and rubbish, we aim to protect the health and environment of all creatures living in and around the bay.
