Compiled by the Port Phillip EcoCentre the report draws on extensive citizen science and identifies Seaford beaches as a plastic litter hotspot — not because it is uniquely worse, but because it has been rigorously counted. Local efforts led by 3198 Seaford BeachPatrol established Kananook as a formal audit site and supplied a dataset that helped shape the report’s findings.
The launch of Plastic Free Bay Report also featured the inaugural Nurdle Cup — organised by Port Phillip Baykeeper Neil Blake — that brought volunteers from across the Bay together (including Warrnambool BeachPatrol, Caufield Love Our Street and Seaford BeachPatrol).
The friendly competition made a serious point: pellet leakage is preventable if industry “picks up the broom.”
