LOS 3185 Ripponlea

Love Our Street 3185 Ripponlea, City of Port Phillip

Ripponlea Village and neighbourhood: a lovely location to live, work and shop. The on-going tide of litter though causes considerable concern to locals in the area

Love Our Street brings together members of the community who care about their patch and the wider environment.

An hour of action, once a month cleans up the streets, prevents litter entering storm water drains and thus protects Port Phillip Bay’s marine environment and beaches and sends a message that we don’t want our community trashed.

Come along and join like-minded people in taking community action against litter. Stay for a catch up in a local café.

Love Our Street 3183 & 3185 Ripponlea Village Clean by 3184-1@loveourstreet.com.au

Happy New Year Ripponlea. With many people away, it was rather quiet in Ripponlea Village.

Still, our collection today included hundreds of small pieces of litter, including 350 cigarette butts. Butts are the single most littered item globally according to Blue Ocean. Small items of litter may seem insignificant. However, according to the Port Phillip Ecocentre’s research, microplastics make up 74% of the 828 million pieces of litter entering Port Phillip Bay annually. If we can keep our village clear of these things, we are playing our part.

Keep up the good work everyone, wherever you are over summer.

Love Our Street 3183 & 3185 December 2018 by 3185@loveourstreet.com.au

A cool morning at a busy time of year. The area on the eastern side of the station got our attention:

4 kg of litter removed including a scooter frame that had been cut up, 700 cigarette butts and 5 drink bottles and cans.

Every little bit counts.

LOS 3185 & 3183 Ripponlea Community Clean Up November 2018 by 3184-1@loveourstreet.com.au

A long weekend for some, but our dedicated crew focussed attention on the Ripponlea Station Reserve, west side of station. Not much by weight collected, but over 1600 cigarette butts removed from paths, gardens and lawns. That's 1600+ individual acts of littering - unspeakably ignorant of the damage these plastic items can cause if they get into the sea, and the toxins are reported to kill beneficial soil bacteria. Any wonder the gardens are struggling!.

Our community is cleaner now - thank you.
