LOS 3185 Ripponlea and 3183 Balaclava

Love Our Street 3185 Ripponlea, City of Port Phillip

Ripponlea Village and neighbourhood: a lovely location to live, work and shop. The on-going tide of litter though causes considerable concern to locals in the area

Love Our Street brings together members of the community who care about their patch and the wider environment.

An hour of action, once a month cleans up the streets, prevents litter entering storm water drains and thus protects Port Phillip Bay’s marine environment and beaches and sends a message that we don’t want our community trashed.

Come along and join like-minded people in taking community action against litter. Stay for a catch up in a local café.

LOS 3183 & 3185 Balaclava & Ripponlea Oct 2019 by 3185@loveourstreet.com.au

A small group of determined volunteers spent an hour collecting litter near Balaclava Station and shops. People came and went at different times, so no people pic today. We collected 4 kg of litter, including 800 cigarette butts (plastic), lots of other small pieces of plastic and confectionery wrappers. That's over 11,000 butts so far this year!

The photo shows what was collected from one of the pits around one single street tree near the station: 63 butts and half a bag of other rubbish, much of it plastic.

Love Our Street 3185 & 3185 - Balaclava Community Clean by 3185@loveourstreet.com.au

A determined band braved the chilly start and achieved a massive haul of 38 kg of litter in Balaclava: 1500 cigarette butts and lots of bottles (mainly from back lanes). This rubbish will now not be loose in the environment. Thank you to the crew!
