3207Beachpatrol Bogged Down in Litter on River by admin

As a supplementary clean some of 3207BeachPatrol went over to the Yarra river bank by the punt on Lorimer St.  It was only about 70 m of beach, 35 m each side of the punt dock.  But what a mess.   4 of us collected 22 bags of litter in 2-1/2 hours.  This included about 20 syringes, a wheelie bin full of plastic bottles and a whole lot of polystyrene fragments big and small.

3207BeachPatrol In September by admin

15 volunteers came out on this glorious morning.   However 1 hour later, we had picked up over 50 kg of litter from the sand, under the pier, out of the ocean and from a rock groin.  A collection of over 60 bottles, many plastic bags from the bottom of the water.

In spite of a rather chilly morning, 18 volunteers turned out to remove litter and plastic fragments of Sandridge Beach.  There had been strong onshore winds this past week.  This brought in a plethora of plastic nurdles along the high tide line indicated by the dark lines in the photo below.
