3206 BeachPatrol – Middle Park Melbourne

3206 Beach Patrol

3206 Beach Patrol is the first and founding beach patrol group formed and operated by residents of Middle Park and Albert Park.

Founded in 2009 the group has more than 100 members and over its years of operation has helped greatly improve the general condition of beaches along Melbourne’s famous Beaconsfield Parade.

3206 Beach Patrol Members pledge one hour of voluntary cleaning per month in their selected zones and also join in for group cleans during Spring and Summer months. Group cleans are where all members are invited down to the beach on a Saturday or Sunday morning to do an hour of cleaning after which they spend some quality time at a beach side café , typically The Sandbar, to chat , mingle and watch the kids play on a safe clean beach.

3206 Beach Patrol includes many kids and our operation is all about community positive action, litter awareness and ensuring wonderful, safe beaches for now and the future.

3206 Impromptu clean by admin

Two of us did a sweep along the Albert Park beaches today as from the Esplanade many bottles and plastic bags could be seen that would get into the ocean.

After one hour we had 7 bags of rubbish and 39 bottles and cans.

Despite blustery conditions and an onshore wind over a dozen volunteers turned out to clean the Albert Park beach today.  Quite alarming was the high number of Mutton birds had washed up on to the sand.  Apparently this is a migratory time and some birds face a hard time with the winds and lack of food.

The council had had their beach sweeper over the sands the day before, but we still managed to pick up a lot of little pieces of plastic, the sweeper cannot pick up.
