Love Our Street 3184 Elwood August Community Clean

Hopefully the last of the chilly collection mornings! (Sorry, no guarantees.)
Thanks to the 14 volunteers who came along today, including two visitors and another member from Beach Patrol 3184 - Love Our Street exists to protect the beaches from litter.

Great effort, but sadly everything in City of Port Phillip is now going to landfill'

At least the thousands of items of litter won't go to Port Phillip Bay.

Our volunteer efforts raised $375 in credits for the PP Ecocentre's Living Waters program: this current round will help local schools install water saving and improvement features in the catchment of Elster Creek.

Eight "Casual" cleans were reported by members and others in the community using the Litter Stopper App. Most of these were along Elster Creek after the rains at the start of the month that meant the creek broke its banks and litter was deposited on th egrassy verges. Other cleans were along Byron Street and at the foot of Point Ormond after winds blew litter onshore.

LOS 3207 in Port Melbourne

20 volunteers came out to clean the industrial streets around Bunnings this month.  As expected they are a mess.  Unlike  a neighbourhood with homes and some pride the industrial areas are only used by workers, so their attention to littering or clearning up is very low it seems.

28 bags of rubbish of which 7 were littered drink containers.   Why doesn't Vic have a CDS?  Which organisation is pulling the government strings?

Elwood BeachPatrol had another great turn out on Saturday, 20th July with 23 enthusiastic volunteers showing up. It was wonderful to see many new faces along with the regulars.

We collected 27kg altogether, including many drink containers, straws and plastic confectionery wrappers.

It was a beautiful, sunny day to be down at the beach doing our bit to keep our oceans clean.

We made the most of the sunny weather and 20 volunteers who came and helped out to collect 45 containers, 10kgs of rubbish and 1,000 cigarette butts. It wa s good to see that the streets and beach were clean. Maybe it's because it Winter, but we like to think it's because people are becoming better at throwing rubbish in the bin.
