Love Our Street 3183 & 3185 Ripponlea Village Clean

Happy New Year Ripponlea. With many people away, it was rather quiet in Ripponlea Village.

Still, our collection today included hundreds of small pieces of litter, including 350 cigarette butts. Butts are the single most littered item globally according to Blue Ocean. Small items of litter may seem insignificant. However, according to the Port Phillip Ecocentre’s research, microplastics make up 74% of the 828 million pieces of litter entering Port Phillip Bay annually. If we can keep our village clear of these things, we are playing our part.

Keep up the good work everyone, wherever you are over summer.

LOS 3184 Elwood Street Clean: Happy New Year Jan 6 2019

Great to welcome people back for 2019. Eleven members were able to come along.

As usual, Elwood looked pretty clean. Still, we gathered 10 kg + of litter from the Village: 1288 cigarette butts, 28 bottles and cans that should be returned via a Container Deposit Scheme (when oh when Victoria?) and hundreds of small plastic fragments (wrappers, cable ties, hair ties, broken hard plastic, polystyrene foam….).

Litter hotspots near building sites – if you see an issue, please report it to Port Phillip Council using the Snap Send Solve app, making sure the GPS reading gives an accurate address – or note it in the text of your report.

LOS 3184 Elwood Casual Street Clean New Year's Day

Just to wish our neighbours in one street a Happy New Year. It's a street that has high pedestrian and vehicle traffic in and out of Elwood, so it's a litter hotspot.

Happy New Year Byron Street.

Just walking around Port Melbourne doing our normal living activities but picking up bottles and cans as we see them on the street.

Total that were littering the streets on our casual walks = 2063 recyclables.  Or an average per month of 280 littered bottles on just the few streets we walk along every month.  Disgraceful.  Imagine what the city is like at large!

That would be $206 with a CDS.   We have homeless people in Port Melb, that would provide food for several days.
