3182Beachpatrol Starts 2014 off Strong

There were 34 of us and we collected 67kg of litter - despite the beach being cleaned just before we started!

This a strong start to the year and we will surely pick up another tonne of litter (unfortunately!).

Graham as usual took lots of pics which you can see here

3186 Starts off the New Year on Brighton Beach

"Mike, Sadie and Judy met today for the regular monthly Brighton beach clean up organised by 3186 Beach Patrol. The small but enthusiastic crew picked up 20 kilos of rubbish, including a Santa Hat and a Monopoly Hotel! The picture shows us and our haul. Sadie has our little finger puppet mascot (as yet un-named) who was rescued and cleaned up following our last meet.

We do group clean ups on the 1st Sunday of each month.

3207BP's Christmas Beach Clean
30 members turned out to a cool but clear morning to clean the beach along by the Port Melbourne Life Saving club.  To our surprise and delight, there was not much litter to be picked up.  The summer weather has not arrived as yet and the beach visitors numbers are low still which helps the beaches out.  Most of what was picked up was little bits of plastic and plastic straws.  (When will they get banned?)

3186BP Cleans Big in December
More than twenty volunteers braved the blustery conditions at the 3186 Beach Patrol group cleanup on Sunday 8th December. Our enthusiastic helpers of all ages collected 167 kilos of rubbish. That makes our beaches much more pleasant and removes lots of plastic that threatens wildlife.

3207BP cleans in the Wind

3207BP was also out today cleaning up the Port Melbourne Dog allowable beach.  We too saw a lot of dead mutton birds washed up on the beach.  Very sad.

We had about 20 volunteers braving the chill and wind.  The council beach sweeper had removed most of the rubbish recently so we were left picking up lots of little plastic bits.

Though one mouse trap and another two syringes were recovered.

Our mascot Lucy the poodle was keen to get involved.

We were also joined by Helen and Victor who are starting up a 3184 Beachpatrol in Elwood.  Good luck to them down the coast there.

3182BP Cleans up in November

Thanks to all 26 of you that turned up today, an amazing turn out given the terrible weather! We had some new beach patrollers join us today and I am very pleased to welcome you to our group.

We collected 101kg litter (two wheelie bins worth!), which is an incredible haul, bringing our total to 919kg after 10 beach patrols, we should reach our one tonne target on our next beach patrol!

I look forward to seeing you at our next beach patrol on Saturday, 14 December meeting at the Marine Reserve Car Park with a Xmas BBQ afterwards (more details will follow).
