A light southerly wind off the water made for a coolish beach clean today.  The beach was quite clean with only small plastic fragments and cigarette butts along water lines to pick up.  With the exception of one volunteer under a pier collecting 2 large sackful's of littered bottles and rubbish.

It was a beautiful morning last Saturday at Elwood Beach.  Our team successfully removed 16kg of microplastics, cigarette butts and other usual suspects such as bottle tops, cans and bottles.  It was great to see some regulars and some new faces.

The good weather brought out walkers, joggers, cyclists etc. and we attracted some new recruits who are set to join us next time.  It's always great to see people responding positively to our action!

Great work everybody.  See you next time!

3182 Beach Patrol - Beach Clean - 10 May 2014

Despite the heavy rain beforehand twenty two 3182 Beach Patrollers braved the elements to clean up the St Kilda West beach.

We were rewarded with a break in the rain and collected 80kg of litter, plus one bicycle.

We continued our practise of collecting cigarette butts separately to send to Terracycle for recycling and found far less than on our last clean up of the St Kilda main beach.

We were visited by MOOP (Matter Out Of Place) Patrol who came long to film Guy Boston (our founder) and us for a video they were making about Beach Patrol.

The weather gods smiled on us and “parted the waters” (rain) for a fine and mild time as over 30 beach patrollers hit the First Point Beach.

The rubbish under the Princes Pier was heavy.   Eva had to wear her gummies.

Elwood's April beach clean was a success with 20 members collecting 23kg of waste.  It was the usual small plastics and cigarette butts that were most commonly found on the beach this week.  The sunshine made it a great morning to be out there.  Thanks to all who participated!
