October Clean Up / Open Day / Birthday
Our October Clean Up was part of the Friends of Williamstown Wetlands (FOWW) open day. It was a great event giving us the opportunity to meet other community groups and learn a bit about the great work they're doing. Williamstown is lucky to have all these motivated volunteers protecting our shoreline, waterways and parks! The event was held at Williamstown Highschool with 14 volunteers walking from the school to Williamstown beach collecting 16kgs of rubbish. A bug thanks to Marilyn from FOWW for supplying the Beach Patrol Birthday cake....it looked great and tasted even better! Well done to everyone involved on the day!

3193 Ricketts Point - November 2015 clean

It was a cool windy day for our first beach clean at Black Rock beach, after a week of rain and wind and storm water drains and bay currents tossed up lots of stuff on the beach. Rain threatened, but did not eventuate. It was lovely to be on the beach in that ozone-filled air.

Many thanks to the 26 people who attended.  There was a huge amount of rubbish to clean – 46 kg collected!

Our November Clean Up was moved forward one week to coincide with Coast Guard's annual Blessing of the Fleet.

Although only attracting a small team of 5 people, we still managed to collect 4 kilos. Thankfully there wasn't too much litter on the beach anyway which further highlights the message is getting out about the importance of being litter wise, not just for the asthetics, but for the conservation and preservation of our delicate marine ecosystems.

Our new kids t-shirts were a big hit, making them look the part.

Find of the month was a blonde wig and a shopping trolley.

3207 How to spoil a Sunday Walk along the Sea
A nice early walk along the esplanade today ended up with 53 bottles and cans later after 10 km.  That is a bottle every 200 m.  Why can't Victoria have a container Deposit scheme to fix this big problem.

Mentone Beach Patrol had 6 volunteers for October and for some reason one of the most abundant items collected was cigarette butts.

It was funny because each person upon returning would comment on how many butts they found. It must have been the perfect conditions for

washing up cigarette butts.
