3207 First Clean for 2016

Today we had 25 volunteers come out for our first clean of the year.  Great day, slight on shore wind.  With the cooler weather, the beach visitors are not out so much which means less litter on the beaches.  We started off with a little talk about nurdles and how to spot them on the beach.

47 Bottles and cans

Approx 30 kg was picked up.

Thank you to everyone for joining us in November for our last 2015 clean. What a fantastic morning, we had a lot of public interest and were even joined by members of Dynamic Martial Arts, Blackburn who were down at the beach training.

Between 15 people we collected 5 bags of rubbish wieghing in at 7kg. We were focusing on nurdles and small plastic waste which is a real problem in the area near Keast Park with the outlet, the majority of the waste was straws, bottle caps, nurdles and cigarette butts.

There was an amazing feast afterwards with a picnic in the park. Well done everyone and thank you for coming along and a huge thank you to Juanita for all of your hard working in starting our 3198 Seaford Beach Patrol this year, you have done an amazing job bringing the community together, helping to keep our beaches clean and raising awareness.

Apologies for the delay on this post - my laptop has not been playing nice

3199 Frankston Beach Patrol December Clean Up

In hot and humid conditions, 21 dedicated volunteers made their way to Frankston's main beach area for our last clean up of the year.

Part of the team included Adele Neale from Environment Victoria as well as the Labor Candidate for Dunkley, Peta Murphy.

The day was made extra special thanks to donations from Sand Sculpting Australia, Foot Street Newsagency & Lotto, Cignall Frankston, Peninsula Camera Centre and Ann Copelin which were raffled off by way of a free ticket to everyone who contributed on the day.

Being Summer, Frankston City Council have vamped up their own beach cleaning activities which was evident of much work they are doing by the small number of items we collected: 4 bags totalling 8Kgs.

Thanks to everyone who got behind us for 2015 - our sponsors, supporters, and of course all our volunteers, all of whom contributed to our success.

I look forward to seeing you all again for our first clean for 2016 on January 23rd.

Have a very merry Christmas and happy new year, be safe, and again, I look forward to seeing you on the beach!

John Billing

A 3207BeachPatroller cleaned along one short beach in Port Melbourne and picked up 4 bags of rubbish over a couple of hundred meters.  Unfortunately most of it was from recent beach goers from the hot days.
