LOS 3184 Elwood - Members individual cleans March & April
Though group cleans are suspended during COVID-19, members continue their efforts to protect our environment. Numerous reports have been logged using the Litter Stopper app. Recent rains mean litter has heavily impacted our beaches, so our work to remove this menace from our streets means less flows through the storm water system to the sea. Thank you to our members.

All Beach Patrol and Love Our Street cleans for every group are suspended until the Coronavirus COVID-19 threat eases and the government gives the all-clear for community activities to restart.

If you are able to get outdoors to do an individual clean, please ensure you use strong gloves and tongs or a reacher. Have soap and water where you can wash your hands at the end of the clean. Clean down all door and car door handles.

Please use our LItter Stopper app, free to download, and report what you collect to the closest group.

Stay safe and well everyone. Hope to see you when we can all be out together to keep our environment litter free.

LOS 3184 Elwood Clean Up Australia Day

We kept to our usual first Saturday of the month to hold our registered Clean Up Australia Day event. It's a long weekend, so it was great to see some of our regulars could make it and it meant a couple of new members could join us in a break from usual commitments.

Our volunteer time raised $250 in credits for the Ecocentre’s Living Waters projects to improve water in the catchment of Elster Creek.

Compared to the same time and location last year, the same number of volunteers collected under half the volume and under half the number of drink containers. Cause for hope?

Sadly, about the same number of cigarette butts.

LOS 3184 Elwood Community Clean Feb 1st 2020

In a window of opportunity between yesterday's dusty scorcher and the welcome rain today, 10 volunteers helped out our neighbourhood. Not everyone's in the photo: a couple phoned in what they'd achieved in their own street today - the spirit of our group in action.

624 cigarette butts (almost double the same time last year at this location). There were lots of food and confectionery wrappers and other soft plastics too, These items need to be on the list to be replaced with non-plastic alternatives.

LOS 3184 Elwood Street Clean - Dec 7 2019

It's a busy time of year, but nine volunteers were able to come along, at various times, to clean up in the streets around Elwood Primary. Worst location was adjacent to a development site with lots of drink containers and butts. Local streets appeared cleaner.

A fantastic effort by all our members this year. Thank you everyone.

Three reports came in using the Litter Stopper app: 7 volunteer hours, 11.3 kg of litter (11 bags), 29 drink containers, 360 cigarette butts. All this litter was cleaned up from beside the Elwood Canal and its feeder - Elster Creek. Port Phillip Council responded to a Snap Send Solve by visiting a development site that had significant litter directly beside the canal. Council officers required a number of strategies to be put in place and undertook to monitor compliance. It's worth reporting issues and keeping an eye on our neighbourhoods.

LOS 3184 Elwood Street Clean - a rainy day clean

Mad on this rainy morning? Well, seven of us were able to come along to Elwood shops (Glenhuntly Road) and nearby.
At least over 5 kg of litter didn't end up in the ocean: 600+ cigarette butts, 23 drink containers that should be returned if Victoria had a Container Deposit Scheme, lots of confectionery wrappers, lollipop sticks and Slurpee straws/straw packaging.
The heaviest rain help off till coffee time. 🐧🐧💚💚 Thanks everyone.
