| Approximately 28 people attended our May beach clean to collect litter around Seaweed beach and car park.We collected about 22 bags of rubbish, roughly 80 KG of rubbish; 50 bottles and cans, a lot of small plastics and high numbers of cigarette butts. One of our members found a fair amount of building materials dumped at one location too.
Luckily the rain held out until after the beach clean so it was a great morning!
Some of us also sadly witnessed first hand the physical impact litter can have on our wildlife. A pelican was spotted with fishing line attached to one of it'd wings with a plastic bottle on the end.
We attempted to rescue the bird to free it of the line but we were unable to capture it. We have reported the pelican to the Marine Response Unit in the hope that they can capture the bird soon.
