Happy New Year everyone, lovely to see so many beach cleaners on what was a bit of a grizzly start to January 2019!

It may have been a bit of a wet morning and the middle of the holidays but there was still 27 volunteers that turned up for our beach clean south of teahouse/beachside cafe at Ricketts Point. Thanks all of those that were able to attend and brave the weather!

In total we collected roughly 50 kg of rubbish, the equivalent of 21 full bags of litter, including roughly 760 cigarette butts, 12 glass bottles, 16 plastic bottles and 9 cans.

Other items included a queen size foam mattress (!), a shovel, fishing line, metal pipe, coffee cups, thongs, wood with lots of nails, and straws.

Cigarette butts, polystyrene and plastic fragments were the most commonly collected items.
