We had 41 volunteers helping to clean the beach at Beaumaris Yacht Club for our Christmas December Beach Patrol. So lovely to see you all and what a scorcher of a day, 32C!
There wasn't too much rubbish found on the beach, the majority and most of the recyclables (bottles, cans and containers) were found in the picnic areas and car parks.
In total we collected roughly 40 kg of rubbish, the equivalent of 15 full bags of litter, including roughly 410 cigarette butts, 12 glass bottles, 10 plastic bottles and 12 cans. Other items were polystyrene, dog poo & bags, bottle tops, straws, soy sauce packets, and a bunnings hat!
Cigarette butts and plastic fragments were the most commonly collected items.
It was great to see some of you at our end-of-year Christmas BBQ. A huge thank you to all of you for all the rubbish that has been removed in the year; nearly 500 kg (210 bags) of litter in total over 311 volunteer hours - over 12 full days of beach cleaning! Well done everyone :)
