Great numbers this week with 12 volunteers including 5 newcomers.

There was quite a lot of polystyrene that was found on our clean up which is very hard to pick up

with most of it being small pieces and as usual lots of plastic wrappings.

All up we collected 10 bags of rubbish weighing 30.8kgs which included 45 bottles and cans.

thanks everyone,

Paul.

The freezing, wet and winding day could not hold us back!
Understandably we only had a small turn out for the Keast Park clean up but we were fortunate enough to have the inspiring and dedicated Neil Blake join us.

The August clean up of Elwood beach was a real show stopper and not in a good way.  In one hour our volunteers collected almost 90kg of litter!  The beach was in the worst condition we had ever found it.   Sadly this reflects what state both the bay and our streets are in as the large volume of litter was likely a result of winter rain washing a whole lot of crap from the surrounding burbs onto our beaches.  During other months, even though we don't see as much litter on the beach, it is still likely to be out there on surrounding streets.  It just takes some hefty stormwater to bring it to the beach and ultimately the bay.  Although it was a sad sight, our team did an amazing job of clearing such a tremendous volume of rubbish and keeping it from reaching the marine life in Port Phillip Bay.  Great work team!
