Thank you to all 3191 members who attended today's beach clean in wild windy conditions!
School holidays and possibly post Grand Final fatigue meant a smaller turnout of about 14.  However, we still managed to collect 14.5kg of rubbish.
The most common items were small plastic bits, glass and wrappers.
Also, a big thank you to Rotary Sandringham for the sausage sizzle - they have offered to come every month, which is fantastic!

This weekend Elwood beach had its first spring clean. The sun came out for us and as a result, we saw a strong rise in volunteer numbers compared with last month.  It was great to welcome a couple of first timers too.  Together we worked to collect items big and small including a tarp, some bulky items by the rocks and the usual menacing plastic fragments and cigarette butts.  The beach looked visibly cleaner at the end of the hour and it was great to gain support from passers by that morning.

Well done Elwood crew!

See you next time on Saturday 18 October.

3207Beachpatrol Bogged Down in Litter on River
As a supplementary clean some of 3207BeachPatrol went over to the Yarra river bank by the punt on Lorimer St.  It was only about 70 m of beach, 35 m each side of the punt dock.  But what a mess.   4 of us collected 22 bags of litter in 2-1/2 hours.  This included about 20 syringes, a wheelie bin full of plastic bottles and a whole lot of polystyrene fragments big and small.

Thanks to our 11 dedicated volunteers last August.  The beach looked all the better for your efforts!

It was great to be joined by yet more new members and other "locals" who dropped by such as the dolphins!  What a great reward for our efforts!

3193 Ricketts Point - September
On a perfect spring morning, 34 volunteers made short work of the litter which had accumulated around the South Triangle seaweed and beach areas. We collected 23 containers of litter, weighing 65 kg.  What great camaraderie there is in our group!  Many members come down for a coffee at the Teahouse beforehand if they can't stay afterwards - some members do both.
