Mentone in July

Mentone had its third clean this past weekend.  This group is growing fast with new people singing up every week.

We saw hundreds of nurdles (raw plastic pellets that get carelessly loose into the environment) and a large amount of fishing line.   Probably due to the storms and wind over the last few weeks washing the majority of the rubbish onto the beach.

Another common item was water logged fibrous insulation bits along the beach.

3205BeachPatrol has first Clean!

3205BeachPatrol had its inaugural beach clean on Saturday.  July may not be the best time to plan an outdoor activity, but the beach pollution is not sensitive to the weather.

Another 5 syringes were collected, some with needles.

A massive thanks to the 24 of you that braved the bracing weather and collected 136kg of litter from the beaches either side of St Kilda Pier. This brings our total this year to 639kg. With the recent bad weather the beaches were in a terrible state with plastic everywhere, so were in desperate need of our attention.

3207BeachPatrol In July

With the windy and somewhat rough weather the last two weeks, a lot of plastic fragments had washed up on to the beach.

Small pieces of plastic about 1-2 cm long were all over.  Plus some other items that made attention;

8 syringes some with needles

A medical boot for ankle injuries was dug out of the sand

Plastic bottles that had rolled up the beach with the onshore winds pushing them along.
