3191 Sandringham May Clean Up
Another successful clean up at Sandringham beach.  35kg of rubbish collected - small plastics and wrappers galore after the wet and windy weather has cleaned the streets only to deposit on our beach.  3 syringes and oodles of nurdles.

3207 Cleans Lorimer St outside Westgate Park
The length of this section of the street is about 1 km.  In one hour we collected 218 bottles and cans and 2 large sacks and 6 BeachPatrol bags of litter.  A lot of disposable coffee cups with plastic lids.  It was awful.  On the way to drop the bottles in a recycle bin we pick up another 56 bottles and cans around Garden city shops.  Where is our Container Deposit Scheme???

This Saturday (21st May) we were horrified to see just how much litter was waiting for our crew at Elwood beach.  We cleaned up around the Head Street jetty.  Thanks to our 18 volunteers, we hauled 28kg off the beach.

Sadly we found a dead albatross, wrapped up in fishing wire.  This was a sad find but reinforced our purpose as a dedicated team of locals, making time each month to clean up the beach and highlighting the issue of beach litter to the passers by.

Good numbers again with 10 volunteers hitting the beach.

We collected 14 bags of rubbish weighing 58kgs which included 60 bottles and cans.

Although it's a bit of a never ending battle with the rubbish at least now with all us great Beach Patrollers all the data is being collected

and the extent of the problem can be passed on.

Good work team,

Paul.

3199 May Beach Clean - A big task!

After recent heavy rain and strong winds, we knew we were in for a big task as 12 of us set out to clean up between Kannanook Creek, Frankston, and Palm Court, Long Island.
Upon arrival, our estimates were confirmed with most of the washed up litter comprising of plastic straws, small to micro plastics including broken plastics, bottle tops and the like, and plastic wrapping such as confectionary and potato chip wrappers.
In total, 25.5Kgs was collected meaning there is 1/40th of a tonne less likely to impact on our marine environment, so a job well done to all involved on a highly commendable effort.
We'd also like to thank our sponsors and supporters,
Frankston City Council,
Bunnings Warehouse, Frankston,
Fit Body Fit Mind,
The Dharma Hub,
Section G12
Cignall, Frankston,
Peninsula Surf,
Snap Print, Frankston,
Peninsula Camera Centre,
Mic Mac's Oriental Grocer,
Foot Street Newsagency,
ithouti they assistance, our volunteers could not achieve the success they do in removing the litter and raising awareness amongst our broader community, so thank you once again.
