Last Saturday we had another beautiful start to the weekend at Elwood beach.  Our wonderful volunteers cleaned up our beloved beach and even found a 60kg ball of rope.  The beach is still being heavily used as the good weather continues so thanks to all who showed up to give the beach some love!

Thank you to everyone who supported Clean Up Australia Day earlier this month.  It was great to see so many locals, both in our group, and all along the foreshore, caring for our beautiful environment.  A huge amount of rubbish was collected, particularly from the Southey St groyne.  There were bottles, cans, plastic bags, fishing line and confectionary packets stuffed in between the rocks:

 45kg of rubbish

 150 bottles/cans

 250 cigarettes

Elwood 1st Cubs Environmental Warriors Next Gen
Working towards an Environment Badge, Elwood 1st Cub Scouts offered to conduct a local clean-up. In blustery conditions, the pack set off behind the Scout Hall, Angling and Sailing Clubs at Elwood Beach. They quickly became expert litter-spotters, working their way around the cafe, along Ormond Esplanade and back through the vegetation. After just half an hour and having gone no further than 200 metres from the hall, they covered a tarpaulin with all sorts of litter. Leaders and cubs were amazed at just how much they had cleaned up.

A fantastic effort by the next generation who will be entrusted with the care of our environment.

Our Feb clean up was even more successful than our January clean up!  We cleared up 36kg of rubbish from our beach.  One of our best clean ups yet!

And with great weather on the way this weekend our 18 March clean up at Head Street jetty is also set to be a good one!
