Port Melbourne Love Our Street Group Cleans up Big

12 brave volunteers tacked some back industrial streets of Port Melbourne Saturday.  Not pretty and very shameful.  More strong indications of why this state needs a #Containerdepositscheme to rid us of thrown away and littered drink bottles.   Plus a way to deal with disposable coffee cups is much needed.

Today we had 22 volunteers come along to help clean up the Werribee Train Station carpark and bus depot area. The weather was a sunny and pleasant 14 degrees. The trains were not operating today, and everyone forced to use replacement buses, so we were quite visible. We collected 44 shopping bags of rubbish weighing approx 50 kilos and 3 shopping trolleys were reported. Our combined haul included 178 bottles and cans and a whopping 6000+ cigarette butts. The site was teaming with butts, and we did make a difference, but we will return to this site next month, as there is still so much more to be done here.

3930 Beach Patrol!

Thanks to these amazing Villagers we were able to remove over 70kg of rubbish from Moondah Beach this morning!  Rubbish including a car tyre, huge plastic drum, 68 bottles and cans and a full bin load of wrappers and general trash...Shocking to see thousands of nurdles and tiny plastic fragments along the entire tidal lines.

Great to see a heap of new faces and special thanks to our regulars.

See you all next month! #lesswaste #plasticfreejuly #plasticpollution #waronwaste  @ Moondah Beach
